Perspective: Climate Change

There seems to be a lot of hype in the media regarding the consequences of Climate Change. Some in the media and in Washington claim that the world will end in as little as 12 years, on the surface this looks a lot like fear-mongering. Pretty sure that's exactly what it is, but what does the science say? Recently (2018-2019) some of the most respected scientists have put conservative estimates out there that we will see what they call 'biological annihilation' over the next decade or so. Some assert that the ship has sailed, others that we can still do something to slow or halt this, but what they are talking about is the Earth's sixth mass extinction event. I've blogged about it before. The truth is, we have a limited ability to predict what precisely will happen. It ranges from; losing a considerable number of species, in which case other species will assume the vacated niches in the ecosystem, to; losing this considerable number without the niches being back-fil

Perspective: Peaceful Presidents

In light of recent tensions between the United States and countries like Venezuela and Iran, I thought it might be fruitful to put things into some perspective. Particularly when it comes to the Left's criticisms of President Trump and President Bush and of course their praise of Obama. President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." October 9th 2009, he hadn't even been in office for 10 months. Policy talk regarding emphasizing the role of international institutions (over sovereign authority of individual nations), denuclearization, and climate policy. Yet he was barely president. Did he delivery on this 'talk'? I am not familiar with the Nobel Peace Prize process but I am willing to wage much on the likelihood that it takes longer than a month.
